Forty plus Year Resident in Gilpin County - Gilpin County Republican Chair- Former School Board Member and Incumbent Gilpin County Commissioner from District #1

Marie’s Background

  • Education:

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Michigan Technological University, and then at the age of forty I returned to college to receive my Master’s Degree in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. My research and thesis focused on welding robotics for the U.S. Navy.

  • Throughout my career, I have worked for small and large corporations, retiring from Xcel Energy after fifteen years in Project Management. In that position I brought projects from concept to completion, including design, purchasing and construction. In this capacity I interacted with a multi-disciplinary team all while managing multimillion-dollar budgets.

I am a life-long learner and as County Commissioner I have gained a great deal of knowledge about policing, transportation, finance, the legislative process and broadband. Through state-wide county commissioner interactions I have learned from the broad experience of other commissioners throughout the state.

  • My initial elected office in our community was as Treasurer of the Gilpin County School Board where I supported funding for the construction of the new wing of the RE-1 High School. Prior to being a school board member I was on the Accountability Committee and supported Booster Club efforts. I volunteered at the Idaho Springs food pantry for two years and donate to the local Catholic church fundraising events. I am an active member of the Republican Party serving two years as Vice-Chair, and three years as a State delegate. Presently I serve as the Chair of the Gilpin County Republican Party.

  • Over the forty-one years my husband and I have made Gilpin County our home, we raised three children who have given us eight grandchildren, and now…one great grandchild! With such a large family, we share in their joy and happiness, but I have also developed a keen awareness of the challenges and difficulties families face in today’s complex and often upside down world.

  • I must admit I have little time for hobbies, but I do enjoy painting with acrylics on canvas and with dyes on silk fabric. I’m also a member of the Gilpin County Arts Association.

  • I believe an open dialogue with the residents of Gilpin County is the best way for me to stay informed. So please contact me with your questions or concerns.
